What is Critical Reading?

Whether you’re doing it for the SAT or ACT, reading is not easy. Of all the sections on the SAT & ACT, the Reading tests are the ones that I get the most requests for tutoring, tips, strategies, and the like, and for good reason – the kind of reading that needs to be done – critical reading – is not natural and not something that we do very often, even in school. So to do well on these tests we first need to rethink what it means to read effectively.

In this video, I compare critical reading and “non-critical reading” to show you how the type of reading we need to do on the SAT & ACT differs from the kind of reading we do in our everyday lives. This video is from my Old SAT Critical Reading Bootcamp course, but it perfectly applies to the New SAT & ACT.
